For the vast majority of practitioners, no towel is required! The top layer of our Earth Mat is specifically engineered with an open-cell, moisture-wicking technology. Instead of sweat pooling on the surface and causing a slip hazard (as happens with closed-cell cheap foam mats), our mat actively draws the moisture in to create an incredibly strong grip. In fact, many users find the mat actually becomes 'stickier' the warmer and sweatier their hands get!

However, if you are practicing extremely heated Bikram yoga and sweating profusely, a microfiber towel can still be useful for sanitary reasons and to extend the daily lifespan of the mat's top coating between deep cleans.

Because the Earth Mat uses open-cell technology to absorb sweat for grip, keeping it clean is vital for its longevity. After a regular practice, simply wipe the mat down with a damp, soft cloth. Use warm water mixed with a tiny drop of very mild, gentle dish soap (avoid harsh chemicals, essential oils, or heavy detergents, as these will break down the natural rubber and clog the grip layer).

Allow the mat to air dry completely completely flat before rolling it up. Never wipe it with alcohol-based cleaners, never put it in a washing machine, and critically, do not leave it to bake in direct, prolonged sunlight or in a hot car, as extreme heat and UV rays will cause the natural rubber to dry out, stiffen, and eventually crack.
